Over
the last few years a number of incidences of cardiac arrest have been
reported among Calgary badminton players. Consequently, the FCR
Badminton Club took the initiative to purchase a Zoll Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for our club members.
In
March 2008, FCR partnered with the MidSun Community Center and
permanently installed this AED at the MidSun Community Center.
CPR
and AED training was provided to the staff of the MidSun Community
Center and to members of the FCR Badminton Club. Now badminton players
(and other sporting participants) will benefit from the presence of
this life-saving device at the MidSun Community Center.
What is an AED?:
The AED is a first-aid tool that
is used in conjunction with CPR during cardiac arrest to increase the chance
of survival. Many
schools, office buildings and athletic parks in Calgary already have
AEDs in place and some of these devices have been used with positive
outcomes.
